Superbowl Predictions?

It’s that time of year again when all the fussing and fighting is over. It’s time to put up or shut up. Of course I’m talking about the superbowl. Perhaps the biggest game of the year for any sport. Playing this years superbowl are the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. Predictions have been made and now we wait. Tune in February 5th to see how it all plays out.

New Semester: Already?

So, on Tuesday next week is the second semester, and my question is how could of this time moved so fast. Honestly, it’s seems like it’s beginning all over again. For some seniors, tomorrow means the last time they see their friends in class. For the other classes, this means a reversal in who you do and don’t see, and there are mixed feelings all over. At the same time though, time will move on, and we should all be preparing for it. A small bit of good news happens before the school begins it’s drastic change. We are getting out for Monday next week, which may bring up that music in your head that always follows good news. If you don’t have any make-up tests on Thursday or Friday, this means you get almost a full week out of school. At least there’s something to push us along to the next semester, because it’s going to be just like the start of school again.

The True Guitar Heroes?

When looking at which guitar to get, a big question is what is the difference between them. With brands like Scheter, ESP, Ibanez, Fender, and Dean, the variety is enormous to choose from. The common details of any genre of music is which guitar to pick from, and it can be narrowed down to two choices. If you would want to play metal and hard rock, you may prefer a foreign guitar, most notably from Japan or Korea. However, if you’re an indie or classic rock type of person, you would want an American-made guitar. This is a common belief among many musicians, but the question is made for you, “Which is better?” The emergence of Japan and Korea as major constructors of guitars came not far back, maybe even in the 90′s or 2000′s. A common question among many musicians is, “Are we still the true guitar heroes?” We would like your opinion or comments on this post among our other posts.

Black Sabbath: Reunion

In the 1960′s, many people were interested in the different sound that Black Sabbath had to offer, the band that would revolutionize the sound of early metal. During the time, bands like the Beatles were being directly challenged by the popularity of this new sound. After all, if you rival the Beatles in terms of popularity, something important must be going down. After Ozzy left for a solo career, the band continued on until it took a long hiatus that many fans thought was the last thing that would ever go down with Black Sabbath. In 2011, many fans received news that shocked the world as they knew it. The original line-up for Black Sabbath were getting together to release a brand new album, and start a tour to follow the album. A few questions on peoples minds were how long would it last, have they lost their touch, and was it all a hoax. Even after Tony Iommi’s health problems reached a peak lately, the innovators in metal seem to be determined to continue on with their latest project. This is a single great moment, followed by many other older bands deciding to rejoin and record. 2012 is expected to be a great year of releases, tours, and better relations between bands. In other words, things are looking very good so far.

Recreation: Costly, But Worth It?

Ever since this whole economic issue has gone on, schools have had to compromise or disband many recreational activities. At one point, almost every school had a ping-pong team. If a school can pay for a ping-pong team, they surely can pay for other recreational activities. This is not the reality of the situation anymore though. A lot of schools have had to cut into their art programs funds to afford basic necessities, and the specific classes affected face a lot of hardships. Ironically, almost every school would say they don’t worry about suppling a sports team, but they have a problem with giving towards an arts class. The irony lays in the fact sports teams, broken down into indivisuals, don’t have the best grades all the time. Recently, schools had to set up a specific GPA just to keep athletes from failing their courses repeatedly. Classes in the arts department often are a positive influence to the student body around them. It stretches from the feeling of accomplishment, reassurance in ones ability, and the motivation to avoid self-destructive behaviors. It also is a great social gathering, allowing you to make friends, and share whatever potential you hold, and how you can improve or excel on your particular abilities. The school board does not share this train of thought, however. Many officials will actually go as far as saying that an arts program wastes funds that could easily support something more important. While their ideology would save money, what about the students outside of school? Not every child is born into wealth and fortune, some actually have to work harder for the same comforts that others may take for granted. Certain people will say that children in these environments will be more likely to join gangs, steal from others, or commit crimes, maybe as young as the average middle school student. This is not a fact that everyone one will, but the services that these arts programs provide are the promise of security, a sense of belonging, and a deep sense of purpose. Earlier in this post, I may of put down athletes a bit. Sports and other activities also do a lot of the things that arts programs do, and they also contribute to the society like other programs do. This leaves a basic question, “Are recreational activities worth the cost to them?”

Would We Pay For It?

Last year, there was speculation that Facebook users would have to pay to keep their services/account. While it never came to be, the idea is growing among social websites to charge users for what would usually be a free service. While the economy is not destroyed beyond repair, the costs would take more money away from people, maybe more than they can pay for. Say the cost is only $7.99 a month, it annually would round up to about $100 to be paid out of your pocket. This is a possibility that may occur, being Twitter, Youtube, MySpace, and other websites may be losing money every year. While there is no telling if this could happen or not any time soon, it leaves an important question, “Would you pay for it?” Some critics have actually predicted that millions of users worldwide would quit using the sites that followed this agenda. Supported by claims that Facebook actually takes away from real social interaction, many younger users would be turned away from their websites that are considered luxuries. To be honest, after that week of inappropriate material leaked onto Facebook, many parents had reason to deny their children access. While this does not specifically target Facebook, it mentions Facebook frequently because it is a more solid example of a website people use. Anyways, this leaves the question, “Would you pay for the use of this website?”

New Year

Happy New Year Everyone!!

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year and enjoyed the well needed break from school. I think it should’ve been a little longer but I thankful for what we had.

It’s a new year and the semester is just about over. Exams start next week and we have two more weeks until we switch to our new classes and two more weeks until our early graduates leave to start a new life. Full year graduates have a little over 22 weeks left until they walk the stage. It’s important to study for the exams and do any make up work that you can do in order to pass. I know some people probably forgot what they learned since the break, but just make sure you don’t wait until the last minute to study, or you’ll have to spend your free day back at school making up that exam you didn’t study for.

Whatever you decide to do just make sure you continue working hard and finish strong.

Band, Orchestra, and Chorus Concert
